Subject: Storm Spotter Page

In an effort to help storm spotters (and EM's and anyone else who needs the information) find the information they need, we have developed a special storm spotter website - http://www.srh.noaa.gov/oun/spotter/

We are advertising the new site at all of our spotter training sessions.

The page is designed to be a supplement - not a replacement - for the live spotter training we do about 40 times each year. It includes current weather information, as well as refresher material on topics covered in spotter talks, reference guides, and more details on topics we do not have time to cover in the spotter talks.

Please take a look at it, share it with your spotters, and let us know what you think. Comments and suggestions can help us make the page more useful.

We are also working on a mobile page that will allow you to access critical weather information on your cell phone/PDA. More on that later...

If you haven't received your AHA Heart Saver Cards, contact David 168.  He should have them ready for you to pickup now.

Also, don't forget about the upcoming Cleveland County Storm Spotter Training class on Wednesday February 13, 2008 at 7 PM at the National Weather Center Auditorium in Norman.  Be sure to sign the roster (if you attend a different class) and make sure Gayland knows which class you attended so he can get a copy of the roster.

Thanks,

January 2008

Team:

Well the new year is here and we need to get going on training.  This year I am going to line up at least one training event each month for the team.

For January 2008, we are planning for CPR/First Aid/AED training.  This training will be tentatively scheduled for Saturday January 19, 2008 from 8 AM to 5 PM, at a location to be determined.  The training is accredited through the American Heart Association and covers Adult/Child/Infant first aid, CPR, and AED training.  The name of the course is Heart Saver First Aid.

If you are interested, the cost is $40 (normally this type of class runs $75).  I need to hear from interested members by no later than Tuesday January 15, 2008.  This is an awesome deal for the price.  Someday, you might even save a life.

I am also working with Gayland on some training for February and March 2008.  We are trying to work on getting a NIMS refresher class and a storm damage assessment class together.  If you are interested in this training, please let us know.  There are still many months to fill and we will be working feverishly to get other training for our team members.

Again, I want to thank everyone personally for contributing to the success of REACT.  We need to grow our membership and stay updated on our training in 2008.  With your help, we will!

Thanks,
Chris 132

Team:

Mr. Deaver would like to get the audit completed before our meeting scheduled on Sunday January 13, 2008.  If you would like to volunteer, please let us know as soon as possible.  We need about three volunteers if we can get them.

If interested, email: president@okemergencyreact.org and treasurer@okemergencyreact.org

Thanks,
Chris 132

Registration for the 2008 National Severe Weather Workshop is now available.  See attached flyer for details, or visit:

January 2008

During January, we normally have our first Board/General membership meetings.  We usually have two events as well:

MLK Day Parade
YMCA Chili Day Run

As we get dates for both, we will post them on the website and the calendar to remind everyone.  We will also begin planning for training once a month, each month in 2008.  We will start to compile training for the team and announce it at the meetings as well.  For January, we are planning to have CPR/First Aid/AED training.  We are working on the dates for this training and will have this very soon.

December 2007

Opening Night 2008 -- WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We still need volunteers for Opening Night 2008.  Please sign up with David 168 as soon as possible.  This event will be held beginning on Monday December 31, 2007 at 1600 hours to 0030 hours on Tuesday January 1, 2008.

Here is information we received from Western Enterprises:

Since there won't be any fireworks fired from the 2nd and Oklahoma site, all pyrotechnics will be fired from the top floors of the Santa Fe Parking Structure and also the Broadway-Kerr Parking Structure.  The pyrotechnics will be primarily positioned and fired from the far east ends of both rooftops to hopefully keep the pyrotechnic debris concentrated on Gaylord.  Of course, having said that, everything is pivotal on the direction and velocity of the wind, but we should probably contemplate a "northish" wind on NYE.  With that in thought, here below are the streets/areas that need to be cleared and secured of any spectators or automobiles

The streets that should be kept clear from any spectators or automobiles would be as follows:

1) Gaylord blocked at Main

2) Gaylord blocked at 3rd

3) 2nd Street from the back end of the Crane, to the east all the way to where the rail road track begins on 2nd Street

Other areas that need to be clear of any spectators or automobiles:

1) Entire top floors of both Santa Fe and Broadway-Kerr

2) Walk ramps on all floors that connect east and west parking areas of Santa Fe Parking Structure.  Walk ramps begin at stairwell that say:

     "stairwell to parking office".

3) Stairwells coming up to top floors of both parking structures, ESPECIALLY where the pyrotechnics are positioned.

December 2007

We had our annual REACT Christmas Dinner/Team Meeting at Oklahoma City Community College on Sunday December 16, 2007.  Everyone had a great time and there was plenty of food.  Photos of the event will be posted in the photo gallery section of the website.  Check them out!

We also had elections during the meeting as well.  We would like to thank everyone who served this year as an officer and on the Board of Directors.  Everyone on the team worked hard this year on events and this year was a tough one for everyone as well.

We lost two of our members Marilyn Kornmaier 216 and Rick Sack 183 due to illness.  Both were on the team for a long time and will be missed forever.  We appreciate their contributions to the team and will miss them very much.  We have added new entries in our team scrapbooks with their photos, bios, and information.  Now they are with REACT Team #1 in Heaven.  Please keep their families in your prayers as they begin a new year.

The results from the December election are as follows:

President - Chris Toner
Vice President - David Spaulding
Treasurer - Paul Deaver
Secretary - Paul Smith
Board Position 1 - Dale Ellis
Board Position 2 - Bob Kaster
Board Position 4 - Kevin Bunde

Congratulations to all!

As the new year approaches, we need to grow our membership.  Ask your friends and people you know if they would be interested in REACT.  Explain to them about what we do and who we help.  Help the team grow in 2008!

We look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting on Sunday January 13, 2008.  There is a Board meeting at 1 PM and General meeting at 2 PM.  The Board will be electing a new Chairman of the Board during the meeting.

We hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
